Once upon a time, I wasn't even 20 yet – young, full of energy and with endless afternoons that I spent in a world called Tyria. Back then, while I was doing my Abitur, Guild Wars wasn't just a game but a way of life: six characters fully leveled up, every armor set perfected, every story played. For hours I roamed through Ascalon with my friends, fought my way through Cantha and defeated the forces of darkness in Elona. That familiar TeamSpeak sound when you logged on to your own server and saw your friends.

But then came university in 2009 – and with it the serious side of life. Suddenly lectures, term papers and exams were more important. So I made a decision that, decades later, I would describe as very practical, but sentimentally devastating: I sold my Guild Wars account along with all its characters and gear.

In 2009, the characters back then changed hands for €34.65 – a fair deal at the time for two teenagers on their way to adulthood. Years went by, life moved on, I built a career and started a family. But Guild Wars never let go of me: to this day I have gaming nights with my wife, when our little one is at her grandparents' and we fight our way through the worlds of Guild Wars 2.

But shortly before Christmas 2025, something unexpected happened: Guild Wars Reforged was finally released – on December 3, 2025! That is the official launch date on which classic Guild Wars rose again and once more cast its spell on players like me.

Suddenly the old longing awoke: What if… I could simply pick up where I had left off back then? But there it was again, the ticking clock of adult life: family, job – no time to start completely from scratch. In the evenings I have two hours at most before I collapse into bed completely knocked out, and I also want to spend time with my loved ones.

I thought: maybe I can get my old account back? So I found the old auction from back then in my eBay history. The seller was actually still active! I wrote to him and asked, without any obligation, whether he might still have the old account. And to my surprise – he replied in a super friendly and kind way!

This time I offered him €90 – I knew that the time it would take me to start from zero again made it absolutely worth it. And lo and behold: everything was still there:
🗡️ My six characters
🧙‍♂️ My gear
🏹 The names I had lovingly picked back then
And all the memories attached to them: I still remembered sitting at translation tools back then, having my names translated into some exotic languages.

It was that small moment: the login screen, the familiar sound, setting foot in Ascalon for the first time – when I realized that in my late 30s I can still feel that old magic of classic games. Guild Wars Reforged didn't just bring back a game for me, but a piece of my own past - that light feeling from back then, when you switched on the PC in your teenage bedroom and had the whole afternoon to yourself and your buddies. It proves: good games don't age – they become part of our memories, and like certain scents, some feelings come rushing back instantly. That "light, carefree" and "untroubled" feeling...

And while today I juggle family, job and everyday life, in the evenings I sit at the PC again and bring back at least a small piece of those days. Because some worlds – and some memories – are simply timeless.
